 RSAMS
- Runway Safety Area Monitoring System |
 The
system monitors the targets (aircrafts and vehicles)
during taxiing, verifying that: the taxiway is used
only in the way selected by ATC in-tower working station;
only the cleared aircrafts/vehicles enter the runway.
In the case of wrong taxiing direction or unauthorized
RSA entrance the system alerts the ATC by visual and
acoustical warnings, saving the event data in a LOG
file. |
|  The
system detecting component is represented by two couples
of microwaves sensors (transmitters and receivers),
located at the edge of the taxiway, near the holding
position.
The two transmitters on one side of
the taxiway and the two receivers on the other side,
are mounted on a structure called “Candelabro”.

 In
order to reduce the ATC working load, the system allows
a management by an hand-on remote control unit, called
“Telecomando RSAMS”, composed by as many
functional keys as there are equipped taxiways. |
 The
RSAMS, even in the current configuration, can be
equipped with visual devices in the manoeuvring area,
whose aim is to advice directly pilots and drivers about
the occurrence of a runway incursion (RSL) or the
drivers about the RSA status (traffic lights). |
